0% finance is your friend – but it's not always ideal

The best car loans are without doubt the 0% finance deals offered by many dealers, but they're not always the best deals. The finance may be free but you might find the same car available cheaper elsewhere – or your ideal car might be in a dealer who doesn't offer 0% deals.

On the face of it, the best car loans are the 0% finance deals offered by some of the bigger car dealers. To an extent that's true, because the finance is free. However, you might find a better deal on a similar car at another dealer, and because there's no profit from 0% finance you might find the salesman offers you a very low trade-in price.
It's not just a case of finding the best car loans, but of finding the best car too: there's no point getting 0% finance if you're paying over the odds for the car in the first place, or if another dealer has a better car for the same price but no 0% deal. You'll find that while normal car loans certainly don't offer 0% APRs, they can still save you money: if you arrange the loan in advance and spot the right car for you, telling the salesman you're planning to buy the car immediately if the price is right could mean he drops the asking price, offers you a generous trade-in or throws in some free goodies.
